It’s hard to tell how pleased Carlo Ancelotti is with our results half the time – he’s pretty emotionless at times really. But anyway, he seems to be suggesting he’s happy enough with yesterday’s game, particularly after our recent defeats away from home.
Following our second 4-0 win over Bolton in a week, the Chelsea manager says “We accepted the criticism after losing our last two away league games at Wigan and Aston Villa, and we have responded very well. It was important to improve after not doing well. After the Villa game we have certainly improved and we are still top of the league.”
Not that he’s getting carried away with our recent goal-fest, because Ancelotti insists “Our results have been good, but we know it’s not possible to win every game 4-0. It’s dangerous to think like that, it can’t happen. We must keep our concentration and try to play well for 90 minutes, that’s all that matters. Right now we’re doing very well, we’re top and we want to win every game.”
Noticeably, Ancelotti keeps pointing out we’re top of the league – and that’s because that’s exactly what he’d been aiming for ahead of next weekend’s clash with Manchester United. It’s never a fixture you’d want to go into desperate for points, especially after playing in Europe midweek, so I’ve no doubt Ancelotti’s trying to keep the pressure off himself as much as anything, saying “It was our aim to make sure that we were still top of the league when we play Manchester United next week. We can now play Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday with confidence and prepare for a really great match against United.”
