How highly do we rate Daniel Sturridge?

I accept that answering the above question might be difficult considering that Daniel Sturridge has only played once for Chelsea since signing from Manchester City in the summer. However, I’d like to gather some opinion on how much we expect from the 20-year-old.

One man who does expect him to achieve big things in his career is Sven Goran-Eriksson. The former England boss – who worked with Sturridge at Manchester City – believes that the youngster has all of the tools to become a top quality striker.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website (any idea why he was doing that by the way?), Sven said that it was ‘very easy to see’ that Sturridge is a ‘very good footballer’. Going further into his description of the player, he mentioned how he is a ‘great finisher, strong and possesses a good technique’.

As mentioned before, Sven clearly thinks that Strurridge has all of the right attributes to be a good player for Chelsea in the Premier League and help increase their odds of winning the Premier League title. Hopefully, this does prove to be the case. As we all know, the current squad does contain some ‘wrong side of 30 players’, so it would be good to see a young player achieve good things.

How accurate is Sven’s opinion though? Have you seen Strurridge play in recent months? Can he establish himself in the Chelsea team over the next couple of years? I have really liked what I have seen so far, but would be good to see what everyone else thinks.

It is certainly going to be interesting to see how Carlo Ancelotti handles young players like Sturridge. Does he give him the occasional run-out from the bench? Does he start him against the weaker teams at home? Or does he let him play his football in the reserves for the majority of this Premier League season?

As ever, your opinion is welcome on the issue, so please let me know where you see Sturridge in five years time maybe. Hopefully he will be banging in goals for Chelsea and England, but we all know that not everything works out as you plan in this game.

Over to you…

Blue is the colour is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
