Hoddle: ‘Beckham Could End Up At Chelsea’

What’s with the Beckham-Chelsea links again? I mean, I appreciate he’s over 30 so it’s maybe par for the course the press would see that as a strong enough link for a headline – but that doesn’t mean all the would be pundits have to follow suit surely?

I suppose the fact that we have Ancelotti now – and Becks had a spell under his management – adds a little to the debate but is a brief spell on loan at Milan really enough to go on? Well, apparently it’s enough for Glenn Hoddle  because with Fabio Capello hinting Beckham doesn’t have much hope if he stays at LA Galaxy, Hoddle suggests  “I think Capello is right to say he has to come back to Europe. I think he has work to do to make his place secure and I think David Beckham knows that. Whether LA Galaxy are happy about it is another matter. But if he gets the loan situation sorted in Europe there’s no reason why he can’t be a massive influence for England.   Milan is the obvious destination, but they’ve just changed the manager and the new manager, Leonardo, might not have the same ideas.   Ancelotti used him well at Milan, so who knows? He could end up at Chelsea. I think he’d be under the nose of Capello, and at Chelsea with Ancelotti there…he’s worked with him before.  He’s obviously got to look at whether David can add something to his squad. But it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.”

Now don’t get me wrong, I think David Beckham certainly has his attributes but at 34, I don’t think Chelsea is the club for him to show them off.
