Rumour has it there’s about eight clubs after Nemanja Matic – so needless to say we’re alleged to be one of them. The 20-year old central midfielder plays in the Slovakia top division for MFK Kosice and has already made his international debut for the senior Serbia side although is currently with the under-21 side in Sweden for the European Championship. Unfortunately, breaking his foot in the opening game against Italy has put paid to the rest of the tournament for him but it hasn’t affected the impression he’s made on potential suitors.
The 6ft 4 midfield playmaker is expected to move this summer, with the head of Football Development for his club confirming “MFK Kosice have received offers from CSKA Moscow, Genoa and Udinese. There are also five Premiership clubs which have contacted us and I will have meetings with them this week in Sweden. We have agreed with Matic that although we do not want to lose him, we will agree a transfer soon before we play in the Uefa Europa League so he is not cup-tied. Like I said no offer has been accepted yet.”
Middlesbrough hoped to sign him following his loan spell there although relegation won’t have helped their cause. Udinese seem to be widely tipped to sign him now although Premier League clubs said to be interested include Villa, Fulham, Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea.
