Chelsea Up Against Juventus, Inter & Man United For Argentine Forward?

It goes without saying that with a new manager coming in at some point and Abramovich rumoured to be ready to splash the cash again, links to every player from the Premier League to the Malawi Super League are par for the course.

This week, one of the players we’re apparently ready to do battle with Inter, Juventus and possibly even the ‘interested’ Manchester United for, is Diego Milito.

The Genoa forward is pretty sought after in European football and with Didier Drogba expected to maybe, possibly, potentially leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, the suggestion is that Chelsea are lining Milito up as a replacement.

The Argentinean started his playing career in his home country in 1999 before moving to Serie B with Genoa in 2004. He scored 33 goals in 59 games for the Italian club although moved to Zaragoza after Genoa were relegated to Serie C for alleged match-fixing at the end of the 2004-05 season. Milito finished their top scorer in his first season with 16 goals and followed that up with 23 goals in the 2006-07 season – two less than La Liga’s top scorer that season, Ruud Van Nistlerooy. At the start of 2008, Milito was averaging better than a goal every two games (a statistic he achieved at both Genoa and Zaragoza), however, with Zaragoza relegated, Milito returned to Genoa in September that year – not exactly one to hang around when the going gets tough then?

Anyway, despite offers from other major clubs around Europe, Genoa was his decision and he started his return there helping them to a 2-0 win over AC Milan, with one goal and one assist. This season, he bagged 19 goals in 28 games, including his first hattrick for the club against Reggina in November.

A pretty decent CV I reckon, but the fact that he’ll be 30 by the time next season starts, is hardly going to bring the average age of our squad down is it?
