Despite Chelsea’s reluctance to spend over the past year, there’s been a lot of talk lately about us having a proper clearout in the summer. Hardly surprising really seeing as we knew we were starting this season with an ageing squad anyway and with the exception of the FA Cup final, we’ve missed out on everything else this year.
Anyway, the links seem to be coming thick and fast at the minute and another name thrown into the pot for us this week is 22 year old Yoann Gourcuff. Although he signed for AC Milan in 2006, Gourcuff managed just 13 Serie A starts before going back to his home country on loan. And as it happens that seems to have done him a favour because the French midfielder seems to have discovered his form at Bordeaux. So much so in fact, that the Ligue 1 side want him on a permanent basis.
However, with Bordeaux unlikely to be ready to pay Milan the £12million asked for him by the 31st May pre-set deadline, and Abramovich ready to splash the cash, the suggestion is that Chelsea are likely to nip in first.
