Mancienne’s Patience Pays Off

I was wondering back at the start of the year whether Michael Mancienne’s return from Wolves would be a positive thing for him. Wolves had hoped to hang on to him but with Terry and Carvalho both spending time out through injury our young defender was recalled from his loan spell earlier than they’d hoped.

Mancienne was already getting himself a bit of attention and had earned himself a call up to the senior England squad at the end of 2008 and it wasn’t long before we were hearing clubs like Liverpool and Man City were interested in him. And with him breaking into the first team of late, he seems to have attracted the attention of Real Madrid as well.

Wolves are rumoured to be ready to offer us £4million for him, however, with Mancienne being the prime candidate to fill John Terry’s boots in the future, Chelsea aren’t planning to listen to offers and instead, are ready to offer the 21 year old a new contract.

Mancienne’s one of a rare breed at Chelsea.  Spotted playing for Kingstonian as a 9 year old, Mancienne was quickly snapped up and debuted for our reserves whilst still at school. And having come through the ranks – and proved he’s good enough – his patience is about to be rewarded.

Great little player with bags of potential and it’s good to see Chelsea doing the right thing by him.
