Chelsea 3-1 Fulham: Hiddink Not Impressed

So, we managed a 3-1 win against Fulham this weekend – but the general consensus seems to be that we were lucky it was Fulham we were playing.

Anelka, Malouda and Drogba might have provided the goals but by the sounds of it (and I can’t comment myself seeing as this is one of the rare games I missed this season), the players focus wasn’t particularly on this game. After the impressive defensive display against Barcelona last week, it appears our defenders might have given themselves an unofficial break for the Premier League fixture.

Mind you, whilst some quarters of the press have suggested we were too open at the back, with John Terry described as “sleeping” and Ashley Cole “missing” – certainly for the equaliser – Guus Hiddink thought we were a lot sloppier than that.

The temporary coach says “You cannot afford to make the slightest error.  I was not happy because we were sloppy in some positions and that’s what I didn’t like despite a good win.  It’s not just one position, it was a sequence of errors mostly. If we want to play a little bit for ourselves when we are not fully concentrated, then we give away chances, like we did against Fulham, but, if we do that on a higher level, you will be exposed and punished.  I was happy with the result but I don’t shut my eyes to more moments in the game where we were sloppy.”

Quite right too, it’s Barcelona up next!
