Same Old Games For Mourinho

Jose Mourinho left Chelsea in September 2007, with Roman Abramovich’s hands firmly against his back. The former Chelsea boss had been under pressure from his boss and the press for some months having failed to deliver again in Europe and missing out to United in the Premier League. At the time, he seemed to be clinging to his job by his fingertips whilst playing the martyr who endured all out of sheer loyalty.

Naturally, the majority of us totally bought into this. The man loved us after all didn’t he? Hasn’t he always said he only stayed for us? In fact, he’s even suggested his love for the club is so great he’ll be back one day. So why is it he’s regurgitating the same old rubbish about how he should have left us for Real Madrid?

We’ve heard it all before – right before the Champions League final he didn’t get us to – no doubt at a time when his ego needed a bit of stroking and yet here we go again, with him spouting off to the press:

“My biggest mistake as a coach? Instead of leaving Chelsea in September, I should have left in July. Instead of a season where I only worked for three months in difficult circumstances, I’d have gone to a really big, big team because I had that big, big team wanting me.”

But what have we done to deserve him coming out with all this again this time? Well obviously we haven’t done anything but then again, in terms of what the Italians brought him in for, neither has he. He might well be taking Inter to another Serie A title but that’s not exactly a first for them and in terms of competition it hasn’t been that much hard work. No, the problem Mourinho’s got is that not only has he not endeared himself to many in Italy this season, he hasn’t delivered in the Champions League either. So in true Mourinho style, he’ll happily use his situation at Chelsea to make sure his current bosses don’t forget how ‘special’ he is. Forget everything he’s said about his love for Chelsea because his opinion about Chelsea changes to suit whatever agenda he has at the time.

But why am I so bothered? Well, if I’m honest I just don’t get how everyone still thinks he’s so wonderful. Yes, he won us a couple of titles and shed loads of trophies in his first two seasons when he had shed loads of money to do it with of course but realistically, to Mourinho, we mean nothing more than another tool to drag out and polish up his ego with and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

As for the man himself, he’ll continue to play the devoted martyr, stating “Did I compromise myself to stay at Chelsea? Yes.”

Oh give the man a Sainthood and be done with it ffs!

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
