So, it’s Slovakia and Ukraine up next for England and this has seen England’s very own saint do a bit of a u-turn.
You see, whilst the last time Ashley Cole was at Wembley, Steven Gerrard felt the boo-boys were perfectly entitled to make the England left-back the game’s scapegoat – and even made his point in the press (unlike his team-mates) – he seems to have changed his mind now.
Because ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wembley, Gerrard suggests “As a player and as Ashley’s England team-mate, I hope what happened against Kazakhstan has all been forgotten about because it was just a simple mistake. I hope every player gets a good reception and that the fans get behind all the players. It will certainly help us as a team. Ashley is a top-quality left-back and on top form is possibly the best in the world. He is very important to this team and is going to be for many more years which is another important reason why the fans should get behind him.”
I wonder whether he got a bang on the head when his halo slipped last year?
