Lampard Suggests Some Common Sense

Frank Lampard’s red card was predictably rescinded yesterday and although the Chelsea midfielder seems to agree with a fair few of us that Riley’s decision probably cost us, he’s fairly generous about the whole thing, saying “It’s good that I can move on, but a shame that we lost the game because of it.  I presumed it would be rescinded anyway so I was quite confident about that.  It was obviously a mistake, we all make mistakes. Footballers make mistakes just as much as anyone – and the referee did.”

Mind you, when it comes to the subject of technology giving the refs a hand, Lampard doesn’t think it needs to be as complicated as all that, stating “It’s very difficult to keep stopping the game for any foul and then you open up a big door to look at any foul that happens and that’s very difficult.  All I think it needs is the referees to be given time to consult the other officials. There are four of them now so they’re getting different angles on it.  And to use common sense. I think with the players that don’t necessarily go around kicking and trying to hurt people, you have to understand that, even if you’re at the wrong angle, a player’s not trying to hurt people.”

Referees and common sense? Now there’s a novel idea!

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
