There’s been all sorts of speculation surrounding Chelsea this season, from unsettled players through to an unsettled owner. However, one thing that appears to have been settled for now is the fate of Stamford Bridge because the following statement was made at the CPO AGM:
Chelsea statement re stadium development:
“Chelsea Football Club has always taken the position that our number one priority is to remain at Stamford Bridge.
The club continues to look at options to redevelop the stadium but anyone with a cursory knowledge of the site knows this is highly problematic and remains so.
The Chelsea board’s main concern and responsibility is ensuring the long term stability and future of the club.
If it proves impossible to redevelop Stamford Bridge then the only option will be to look elsewhere in the surrounding area of west/south west London in order for us to remain competitive with the world’s top clubs.
We will need to convince our fans that this is the right course for Chelsea if that eventuality ever arises.
We are approached regularly by a variety of people and businesses with land they believe is suitable for a stadium. Chelsea is not in any advanced talks over any of these, despite media speculation to the contrary.
In the current economic climate it is extremely unlikely there will be any further developments on the stadium front for the next two years.”
For me, this sort of announcement not only determines where we’ll be for the next few years at least, but it also indicates there’s no plans for any changes in ownership either.
What do you reckon?
