CHELSEA 2-0 Boro: Set-Pieces Work For Us For A Change

CHELSEA 2-0 MIDDLESBROUGH

Forgive me if I just bypass the first half but to be honest, it hurt my eyes watching it. We lacked ideas and enthusiasm and although I’ve never agreed with booing players off, it was easy to see where the supporters were coming from at half-time.

We were pretty dull and unimaginative but fortunately, Boro were marginally worse so we got away with it for the first 45. I have to say though, I almost dreaded putting myself through the second half – torturing myself during the break with thoughts of a late set-piece breaking Boro’s 34 year drought at the Bridge.

Fortunately though, the return from the break saw Malouda depart and Didier Drogba take his place, not that he ran the show by any stretch of the imagination, but we seemed to liven up a bit anyway.

Again we saw chances go begging but it was good to see us concede set-pieces without conceding goals for a change, and it was even better to see a couple of corners result in 2 Salomon Kalou goals.

On the subject of Kalou, what the bloody hell was his goal celebration all about? If I’m right in thinking his ‘handcuff’ gesture was in support of John Obi Mikel, then all I can say is the bloke is an absolute prick, 2 goals or not.

That side, we’re back to joint 2nd in the table which makes me a lot happier than our starting position of 4th going into the game did – and the fact that Liverpool looked even more of a shambles than us last night makes me even happier.

Let’s hope Benitez bottles it again at the weekend eh?
