Do Chelsea Really Need Storari?

It seems that having let Carlo Cudicini go to Spurs on a free, Chelsea are on the verge of bringing in a loan keeper.

According to AC Milan keeper Marco Storari’s agent, this should be a done deal by the end of today and will see us bring in some competition for Hilario as our second choice at least til the end of the season.

Obviously, Cudicini’s departure left a bit of a hole in terms of cover for Petr Cech, but bearing in mind the 32 year old has been loaned out for the past two seasons to Levante, Cagliari and Fiorentina (where he is currently), just how good is he?

Well, in a nutshell, Milan signed him two years ago when they were in dire straits keeper-wise and in just three Serie A appearances, against Livorno, Siena and Udinese respectively, he managed to concede 7 goals. Needless to say they couldn’t get him out of their squad fast enough and he’s been on loan since.

Storari is apparently due to have a medical with us tomorrow – a bloody good haircut wouldn’t go amiss either – and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think the thought of him in goal would scare our already fragile defence shitless, so it’s fair to say we’d be better off sticking with Hilario as back-up anyway.

I mean, have I got the wrong Marco Storari? Because if I haven’t then I really don’t get the point of this.
