The news on Michael Essien has always been the subject of change since his cruciate knee ligament injury last September. Early estimates had him coming back as early as January, although more conservative guesses suggested he’d be back around March, whilst last month, we were getting our hopes up for a return to action next month.
The latest news on our midfielder though seems to suggest that having resumed outdoor training last week, he could make his return for the second leg of our Champions League tie against Juventus on March 10.
And with Essien having played at full-back, centre-back and all across the midfield for us at one time or another, Scolari sums it up perfectly, saying “I lost five players when I lost Essien.”
So, let’s hope we welcome the five of them back soon.
