Well, we might not have seen him in a Chelsea kit since the summer, but Michael Essien has picked up Ghana’s Footballer of the Year award. It was playing for Ghana, in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa, that saw the Chelsea midfielder sidelined in the first place although he’d clearly done enough for his national side up until that point to get the votes.
Sulley Muntari and Laryea Kingston came second and third respectively.
