Bridge’s Future Uncertain?

There’s been a few pretty daft transfer rumours flying about recently but there have also been a few that could have a ring of truth about them.

Take the one about City’s plan to put in a bid for Wayne Bridge for example. Why wouldn’t they? I mean, he’s a bloody good player right? And he doesn’t get anywhere near as many games as he should do in the Premier League, so that’s something City could offer him for a start. Then there’s the money – and we know there’s a lot more of that at Middle Eastlands than there is at Stamford Bridge these days.

But would Bridge fancy it? I mean, we’ve all heard he’s perfectly happy at Chelsea, happy enough to sign a new deal in the summer in fact – albeit when there was maybe a bit more optimism in the camp. But is he ambitious enough? Because we all know City are a club going places right? And whilst it looks as if their destination could be the Championship right now, that’s nothing a few hundred million won’t sort out next month apparently.

Then there’s always the possibility that Scolari could make the decision for him if Abramovich sticks to his guns – and his wallet – as threatened. Could Chelsea really turn City down if they come in with an inflated bid? (It still makes me laugh when I think just how ironic this sort of situation is). I just don’t think we can write this particular rumour off as the usual paper-talk.

So whilst we can sit back and scoff at some of the reports we read between now and the new year, this is one I think we’ll just have to wait and see about.
