Chelsea After A New ‘Makelele’?

There’s apparently no end to potential transfers Scolari’s got his eyes on right now – according to the press anyway – and the latest of these is rumoured to be Lyon’s Jeremy Toulalan. And luckily coincidentally enough for the hacks, this could see Chelsea doing battle with Arsenal for the defensive midfielder.

Wenger’s apparently had his scout keeping an eye on the 25 year old for some time now and so has Luiz Felipe Scolari and the two coaches have both made enquiries.

Toulalan, who moved to Lyon for £4.5million in 2005 is best known for his skilful distribution, technique and effective tackling and has made the ‘Makelele role’ his own in the French side, although with John Obi Mikel already settling into the role at Chelsea, it’s hard to see the thinking behind this particular link.

Besides, at a cost of somewhere between £8 and £12million, the press neglected to suggest who would be fronting up the money here.
