Taking Risks With John Terry?

John Terry limped off the field towards the end of Chelsea’s game on Saturday, with his Brazilian boss suggesting he could face a few weeks out with a foot injury.

However, following a scan yesterday, the news must have been a little better than first thought because the Chelsea captain reported for England duty last night ahead of Wednesday’s friendly with Germany.

Again, a little worrying from a Chelsea point of view is that following Saturday’s game, John Terry was seen with an ice-pack on his foot and Scolari had initially expressed concerns he could have been struck with a similar injury to the one that has kept Ashley Cole out for the last four games, although he also suggested “If he has a condition then he should not play (for England) but if he does not have a condition he must play.”

England manager, Fabio Capello has already made his position clear when it comes to players declaring themselves fit for their clubs although suddenly struggling with injuries when it comes to reporting for their countries and he seems to have taken a hard line over this one. And with Steven Gerrard doing the business for his club Saturday lunchtime before a statement on Liverpool’s website ruled him out for England with a sudden ‘groin injury’, Capello has insisted he travel anyway – even if just to be assessed by the FA’s own medical staff.

And with this combination of Capello’s tough stance, together with John Terry’s ‘play through the pain’ attitude, Wednesday’s international friendly could ultimately do Chelsea’s already depleted defence, some serious damage.
