With yet another England friendly on the horizon and available players around the country dwindling in numbers when it comes to Fabio Capello’s choices, let’s have a look at who he can and can’t pick from the Chelsea squad.
Ashley Cole, missing for Chelsea’s last four games, remains out for both his club and country right now, as does Joe Cole. Frank Lampard, who took a knock in Saturday’s game against West Brom, is a late withdrawal from Capello’s squad. Following a scan on a rib injury by the FA medics this morning, the Chelsea midfielder has been sent back to his club for further treatment. John Terry, on the other hand, despite coming off with a foot injury towards the end of Saturday’s game, successfully came through an England training session this morning and it’s assumed he’ll be fit to captain England on Wednesday.
So, Capello’s remaining choices when it comes to those un-injured few at Chelsea, come in the form of Wayne Bridge, former under-21 international Michael Mancienne, who’s earnt himself a call-up to England’s first-team whilst on loan at Wolves, and of course the captain himself unless he’s lost a leg by then.
