Deadline Day For Robinho

Well the final day to get our man has arrived but after yesterday’s handbags things aren’t looking too good for either Chelsea, Robinho or Real Madrid.

First we had Robinho telling the world’s press he wanted out and that’s the end of it as far as he’s concerned. Then we had Real Madrid slating both their Brazilian player  and Chelsea via the official website for their ‘deplorable’ actions – I guess they didn’t like the shirt then? And then, we had Chelsea’s response – again via the official website because I guess they’re all talked out – defending their position and refuting any criticism aimed at them.

So, after all the bitching, where does that leave us today with mere hours to go?

Well, in the aftermath of Robinho’s press conference yesterday, Calderon was apparently continuing his public insistence that Robinho will not be sold to Chelsea. However, according to Guillem Balague’s website, Calderon has actually suggested ‘off the record’ that should he receive an offer in excess of 36million euros, then he’ll let Robinho go.

You see, it all appears to be down to in-house politics because whilst Calderon would prefer Robinho to stay, he’s under a bit of pressure from Sporting Director, Pedrag Mijatovic (who seems to have at least some sense) to just sort the deal out and get the ridiculous saga over with. Bernd Schuster, on the other hand, is pulling Calderon in the other direction, going as far as threatening to resign if the 24 year old is sold……

Until yesterday anyway, because on the opening day of the Primera Liga which saw Real Madrid lose to Deportivo (minus their wantaway playmaker), when asked what he’d made of Robinho’s announcement that he still wanted to leave, Bernd Schuster stated “Today is not Robinho day, it was our day and the game is what is important. What Robinho does really does not interest me. He does not deserve the attention.”

And what of Chelsea’s take on all this? Well, they reckon they’ll have it sorted before tonight’s deadline.

At least we’ll know by this time tomorrow anyway!
